we provide childcare for families

If your family needs childcare before or after school, our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program is available.

OSHC provides high-quality childcare for PHPS students from prep to Year 6 who need to be cared for outside of usual school hours.

We’ve developed OSHC in partnership with children, staff and families, so it responds to children’s interests, needs, and developmental stages.

Children are cared for in a creative, stimulating, engaging, safe and secure environment that promotes respect and care for others and having fun.

Activities program

We offer a varied program, which includes a mix of free play and structured activities.

We work with the children to update the activity program each week. Here’s a sample program:

Creative

Wool club—knitting and weaving

Cooking—apple turnovers, spaghetti bolognaise, burritos

Film-making and animation

Art—jigsaw design, wooden key rings, watercolours, pet rocks and habitats

OSHC treasure maps and scavenger hunt

We also make space for, and encourage, reading, drawing, relaxation, imaginative play and outdoor activities.

Indoor

Connect 4 competition

Block and Lego construction

OSHC electronics day (children join in an afternoon of fun with technology using iPods, iPads, DS etc. from home)

Physical activity

Indoor hockey

Football on the oval and footy tipping

Years 5 and 6 club

Mega indoor games challenge

OSHC staff

OSHC employs a team of friendly, enthusiastic educators. The staff to child ratio is 1:15.

By law, all OSHC team members have a WWCC and are qualified or working towards an approved qualification as recognised by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). They also attend regular training and development.

All our OSHC educators are trained in:

  • anaphylaxis management
  • protecting children – mandatory reporting.

Our OSHC coordinators and supervisors are also trained in:

  • asthma management
  • first aid level 2
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • food safety level 2.

Mandy Hobson is our OSHC Coordinator. Mandy manages OSHC in conjunction with the School Council Sub-committee.

Food

We serve healthy, fresh food at OSHC before and after care sessions. We adapt our menu to cater for children’s specific dietary and cultural requirements and preferences. We include the children’s menu suggestions in line with our healthy eating/nutrition policy.

Operating hours and bookings

Before school care: 7.30 am – 8.45 am

After school care: 3.30 pm – 6.00 pm

Curriculum days: 8.45 am – 3.30 pm

Enrolment is an annual process and you can make permanent or casual bookings. Permanent bookings are ongoing and casual bookings depend on availability and attract an additional $2 fee per session. Please make your casual booking request before 2.30 pm each day by calling 9388 1790 or emailing ohsc.princes.hill.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.

Use the OSHC enrolment form to enrol. Under the National Quality Framework, you must complete the form in full, including sections on anaphylaxis, asthma and immunisation.

To contact OSHC, call 9388 1790 or email ohsc.princes.hill.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.

Availability

Before Care operates at 45 places and After care at 120 places.

Cost

Fees are reviewed by the OSHC Sub-committee annually, so please contact the service for a current fee schedule. Fees are per session and per child; there is no sibling discount. Fees are charged for all booked sessions.

The government Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate apply to all sessions. Please call 13 61 50 to register for the rebate and benefit.

Late pick-up fee

Late pick-up fees are charged at $25.00 for every 5 minutes after 6.00 pm. This cost covers the legal requirement that two staff stay and be paid overtime from 6.00 pm.

Late pick-ups are stressful for everyone, especially children. We ask parents and caregivers who are consistently late to find alternative care for their children.

Management and legislated requirements

OSHC is licenced under the Department of Education and Training Victoria: Service approval SE – 00005696; Provider approval PR – 00002890. We are licenced for 120 places.

The PHPS School Council, through the OSHC Sub-committee, manages the OSHC service.

The approved provider and nominated supervisor, in conjunction with the OSHC Sub-committee, ensure the program’s day to day operations meet compliance requirements.
